The Beistle Company was founded in 1900 by Martin Luther Beistle in the basement of his home near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Early on his partnership with Paper Novelty Company brought Beistle Company fame as the pioneer in honey combed tissue decorations creating products like bells, balls, toys and Easter Bunny nests. Over time they expanded their catalog to include all holidays and the first season added to the line was Halloween. Over 1,000 different designs have been added since 1921 including witches, black cats, owls, spiders and jack-o-lanterns. To this day the Beistle Company is run by descendants of M.L. Beistle and maintains a full, private archive of products with one of every item ever produced under the Beistle trademark. The archive is not open to the public but was recently made available to Christopher James for use in his original collage art designs and decorations. The Beistle Boardwalks by Christopher James are among the first products the artist has made available to select retailers.
